Settling In

by admin on 01/22/2010

Still pregnant. I’m walking around in labor…steady contractions, 2 centimeters at my last appointment…but still pregnant. I’m turning my focus to thanking the Lord for our amazing new home. We’ve been living here for about a week and a half now, and little by little as I waddle my way around, it’s really becoming a home. We even have a time-out bench in the entry way. You know it’s becoming home when you’ve established the time-out area. No home is complete without one of those. We feel so blessed. After 5 years in a home that held us in tight as we grew our family, marriage and business, we are so grateful for the new home He has given us. Having a designated office that we can work in away from the kids feels like being in a different wing. It’s wonderful. For the past 4 years, we’ve shared a room with Reese, so to have our own master bedroom is as if we’ve won the lottery. It all feels like we’ve won the lottery.

On with the pictures. I thought it would be fun to share what the home looked like when we toured it for the first time…with all the sellers furnishings in it.

This is what we saw when we walked through for the first time. This WAS the great room:

We spent a week taking small loads in our vans over before we were renting the moving truck…not knowing if I’d go into labor. I didn’t.

I love the living room with our furniture in it. I had scored one of the IKEA rocking chairs and the little brown IKEA couch from Craigslist a while ago (I love you IKEA and Craigslist), so we purchased another rocking chair to be it’s mate.

The seller’s furnishings…this is the way the eating area off the kitchen looked when we toured the home for the first time:

The blank slate…

Boxes and stuff everywhere. I’ll be totally honest, this freaked me out. I’m naturally a person that likes a somewhat orderly space and then to top that with the end of a pregnancy…I had some serious irrational moments. It’s all good now.

I almost cried when our own dining room table was being brought in. The dining room and seeing my family around it is my absolute favorite spot. We had six leather chairs around this table in our old home, but we purchased 8 chairs from IKEA to go around it so that our great big ‘ole family can fit.

The best place in the whole wide world…the family table:

So there it is in all it’s loveliness so far in the rooms we are in the most. I have a ton more to share and I promise I won’t continue to be such a lame once-every-two-weeks blogger. Hopefully I’ll be posting from a hospital bed soon! Maybe tonight?
