I sold the cutest monkey and bought a new lens. I’m kidding. C’mon! I don’t rank the kids by their cuteness. They are all equally cute to me. I made them all draw straws to see who was going.

Seriously though, Reese is staying with grandma for the weekend. The wild one. The spirited one. The consuming one. She’s my little firecracker and she’s been gone since yesterday evening and I miss her so much. But this is good for all of us. Because I know she is getting the one-on-one attention from my mom that she craves…and we are all getting an opportunity to appreciate the spunk she brings to the household. Because let me tell you…it. is. quiet.

Back to the lens. I love it. Love it, love it, love it. Jen suggested I get it because she’s cool like that and it really is one fine piece of glass. But do you know what I was thinking about? What our husbands think about our hobbies. All the various crafts and creativity we all find ourselves in like the scrap-booking and the stamping and the knitting and the sewing and the thrifting and the flea marketing. That stuff isn’t free and a lot of it isn’t cheap. Are they thinking, “did you seriously just spend whatever amount of money on yarn?” Or colored paper? Or some stamps? Or a chair that looks like someone should have just thrown it out? I think they see that it makes us smile and stirs and satisfies something in us that you just don’t get from the day to day rearing. So they smile and encourage and all is right in the world.

But I suspect that maybe in their minds, they have fleeting thoughts like, “doesn’t she have 3 baskets of yarn already?” and “isn’t there already a lens on the camera?” behind those smiles. So, thank you honey. Go and buy your speaker-thingers that hook up to the TV and make movies sound cool. You deserve it. And to all the others hubs out there that are smiling and encouraging your wives to be creative and experience completion and accomplishment in something beautiful…You men rock!
