how to try it before you buy it

I’m not giving up on the wall behind the tv. It needs something.

A collage wall looks busier then my brain can handle. And the large artwork isn’t going to fly.

I know I like white. Clean. Square. And order.

We were watching Inception the other night, and part of the set design features a gallery of pictures hanging from a 1 x 4 plank running the length of the wall. All of the frames were the same size and hung from what looked like exposed picture wire from hooks on the plank. (*Sidenote: Great movie. I need to watch it 5 more times though to really grasp the plot. I love movies like that).

I wanted to see what it would look like though. I have drywall mud in my hands probably every other month. I change my mind a lot and even when I’m not changing my mind, some ideas just didn’t work and holes need patched. But I can’t say I’d like to pick up mudding as a hobby anytime soon.

So I cut out a faux display out of packaging wrap from the Dollar Tree.

And I hung my fake picture frames from white yarn.

It worked.

I love it.

I found the frames I will use from IKEA. Isn’t IKEA wonderful? They are 10″ x 10″ and come in white.

The plank that runs along the wall will be painted the same color as all the trim and the hooks the frames hang from will be brushed nickel.

I’m going to live with the paper display for a little while longer just to be totally sure. But I am really loving all those perfect squares all in a row. And it will be great to stare at kid’s art or beautiful prints when the TV is being dominated by a man show or Rainbow Bright for the 68th time.

I LOVE this wall! We also saw the movie a couple of weeks ago and my husband said we should try something like that along our wall too in our living room…. once you figure out what type of string-thinkg you are going to use to hand your pictures please share!
